P&D Painters respects your privacy and is committed to protecting the personal information you share with us.

This Privacy Policy explains how P&D Painters collects, uses, stores and shares personal information when you visit our website, request a quote, contact us or engage us to carry out painting or decorating work.

P&D Painters operates in Christchurch, Selwyn and the wider Canterbury area. We comply with the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 and the Information Privacy Principles contained in that Act.

1. Personal information we collect

The personal information we collect depends on how you interact with us.

When you contact P&D Painters or request a quote, we may collect information such as:

  • your name;
  • email address;
  • phone number;
  • property or job address;
  • details about the painting or decorating work you are considering;
  • information you include in an enquiry or message;
  • how you heard about P&D Painters; and
  • any other information you choose to provide.

If we visit your property or carry out work for you, we may also collect:

  • information about the property and areas to be painted;

  • relevant details about other occupants, property managers, builders or contractors;
  • photographs of the property or completed work;
  • quotes, variations and job records;
  • correspondence with you;
  • invoices, payments and other account information; and
  • information relating to warranties, maintenance or follow-up work.

If you provide a review or testimonial, we may retain the review together with your name and any photographs or other information you have agreed may be published.

If you apply to work with P&D Painters, we may collect information relevant to your application, including your CV, employment history, qualifications and references.

2. Information collected through our website

When you visit pdpainters.co.nz, some information may be collected automatically through cookies and website technologies.

This can include information such as:

  • screen size;
  • time spent on pages;
  • interactions with pages, links and forms; and
  • technical information such as IP address.

We use website analytics and performance tools, including Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, to help us understand how people use the P&D Painters website and where we can improve it.

These services may use cookies or similar technologies and may process information outside New Zealand.

3. How we collect personal information

Where practical, we collect personal information directly from you.

This may happen when you:

  • complete a form on our website;
  • phone, email or message us;
  • request a quote;
  • meet us at your property;
  • engage us to complete work;
  • communicate with us while a job is underway; or
  • provide feedback or a review.

Some website information is collected automatically through cookies, analytics and similar technologies.

We may occasionally receive personal information about you from another person or organisation. For example, a builder, property manager, landlord, business, insurer or other customer may provide your contact details where they are arranging painting work involving your property.

Where required by the Privacy Act, we will take reasonable steps to make you aware that we have received your personal information and explain why we have it.

4. How we use your information

We only collect and use personal information where it is reasonably necessary for our business activities.

We may use your information to:

  • respond to questions and enquiries;
  • arrange site visits;
  • prepare and provide quotes;

  • protect P&D Painters, our customers, employees and contractors where reasonably necessary.

Photographs of our work

Photographing the work as it progresses and once it is complete is a normal part of how P&D Painters operates, and something you can expect when you engage us. We use these photographs to keep an accurate record of each project and to show prospective customers genuine examples of our work.

The focus of these photographs is the work and the property, not you. When we use them in our own marketing we do not add your name, address or other details that identify you personally, and we take extra care with any image that clearly shows a person or the interior of a home.

Photographs of completed work may be used on the P&D Painters website, on social media, and in advertising and printed material.

If you would rather photographs of your project were not used publicly, or you would like a particular image removed at any time, please let us know and we will sort it out.

Reviews and testimonials

When you leave us a review or give us a testimonial, you are choosing to share your experience publicly. We may republish that review on our website and in our marketing, along with the name you provided with it. Reviews left on services such as Google or Facebook are already public, and we may feature them in the same way.

Some customers also send us photographs of their finished project, or are happy for their review to appear with a profile photo. Where you have provided a photograph to go with your review, or told us you are happy for one to be shown, we may publish it alongside your review and name.

If a message you sent us was private rather than a public review, we will not present it as a public testimonial without checking with you first.

You can ask us to remove your review, your name or an associated photograph from our own website and marketing at any time.

Marketing

If you choose to receive marketing or promotional communications from P&D Painters, we may use your contact details to send information that we think may be relevant to you.

You can ask us to stop sending marketing communications at any time by using the unsubscribe option provided or by contacting us.

5. Who we may share information with

We do not sell or rent your personal information.

We may share information where reasonably necessary with:

  • P&D Painters employees and team members;
  • subcontractors involved in completing your work;
  • builders, property managers or other parties involved in a project;
  • suppliers where information is required to provide materials or services;
  • website, hosting, email and technology providers;
  • accounting, invoicing and payment service providers;
  • Google, Microsoft and other analytics or technology providers;
  • professional advisers such as our accountant, lawyer or insurer; and
  • government agencies, regulators, courts or law enforcement agencies where disclosure is required or permitted by law.

We aim to provide third parties only with the information reasonably required for the purpose for which they are involved.

6. How we store and protect information

Personal information may be stored electronically in our business systems and cloud services, and in some cases in paper records.

We take reasonable steps to protect personal information against loss, unauthorised access, disclosure, alteration or misuse.

These measures may include password protection, restricted access to business systems, appropriate device security, backups and the use of reputable service providers.

However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

We keep personal information only for as long as it is reasonably required for the purpose for which it was collected or where we are required to retain it by law.

Some business and financial records must be retained for longer periods. For example, New Zealand tax rules generally require relevant business records to be retained for at least seven years.

When personal information is no longer reasonably required, we may securely delete, destroy or anonymise it.

7. Information processed outside New Zealand

Some of the technology and cloud services used by P&D Painters may store or process information outside New Zealand.

Where the Privacy Act applies to an overseas disclosure of personal information, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that the information is protected in accordance with the requirements of the Privacy Act.

Depending on the circumstances, this may include using providers that are subject to New Zealand privacy law, providers operating under comparable privacy safeguards, contractual protections, or obtaining authorisation where required.

8. Cookies and analytics

The P&D Painters website may use cookies and similar technologies to make the website work correctly, understand how visitors use it and help us improve its performance.

We currently use services including Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity.

These tools can provide aggregated and technical information about website use, such as which pages people visit, how long they spend on the website, the devices they use and how they interact with individual pages.

You can control or disable cookies through your web browser. Blocking some cookies may affect how certain parts of the website operate.

Third-party services used by our website operate under their own privacy policies.

9. Accessing and correcting your information

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to ask us whether we hold personal information about you and to request access to that information.

You can also ask us to correct personal information if you believe it is inaccurate, incomplete or out of date.

To make an access or correction request, contact us using the details at the bottom of this policy.

We may need to confirm your identity before releasing or changing personal information.

We will respond to requests within the timeframes required by the Privacy Act. In most cases, this means responding to a request for access or correction within 20 working days, although the Act allows that timeframe to be extended in some circumstances.

There is normally no charge for making a request, although the Privacy Act permits charges in limited circumstances.

10. Children

P&D Painters provides residential and commercial painting services and our website is not directed at children.

We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information directly from children through our website.

A child may occasionally appear incidentally in a photograph or information relating to a residential property. We take particular care before publishing photographs or other information that identifies a child.

11. Privacy breaches

P&D Painters takes privacy breaches seriously.

If personal information is lost, accessed, used or disclosed without authorisation, we will take reasonable steps to contain the incident, understand what has happened and reduce the risk of further harm.

Where a privacy breach has caused or is likely to cause serious harm, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and affected individuals as required by the Privacy Act 2020, subject to any applicable exceptions.

12. Links to other websites

Our website may contain links to websites operated by other organisations, including suppliers, manufacturers, review platforms, social media services and other businesses.

Those websites have their own privacy practices and policies.

P&D Painters is not responsible for how third-party websites collect, use or protect your information once you leave our website.

13. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes to our business, website, technology or legal obligations.

The latest version will be published on pdpainters.co.nz, with the date of the most recent update shown at the top of this page.
